Facebook Ad Hack #1: Use High-Quality Ad Design

In the world of Facebook advertising, the adoption would read: “Keep your ad quality, copywriting, and standards high.”

No matter how good your ad copy or your bidding methods, a low-quality ad image can ruin all your other efforts. Without a high-quality ad design, your campaign’s almost certainly going to fail.

Creating a Facebook ad design that looks trustworthy and outstanding isn’t too difficult. You don’t need the black belt in Photoshop to put together a simple well-designed Facebook ad. I personally use Canva.com though if you’re creative juices have stalled, you can always find loads of good designers over at fiverr.com.

Tip: Make sure that your Facebook ad design is at least 1200 x 628 pixels wide, and that the colours look good on every screen.

Facebook Ad Hack #2: FB Messenger Ad Campaigns

Not really a Facebook Ads hack, but a huge opportunity nonetheless.

I’ve only seen two Facebook Messenger campaigns done well, so far. I don’t know if this is because I’m not in the target audience for those who are running them, or if there just aren’t any people running them yet. But, either way, this is a HUGE opportunity at the moment.

To put it in layman’s terms: You can use Facebook Messenger ads to get people to interact with your brand via Messenger. Then, once they’ve messaged your page, you can run ads to them that show up as messages in their FB Messenger. It’s a bit like building an email list, but within FB messenger.

Facebook Ad Hack #3: Rotate and Refresh

Ad fatigue refers to the phenomenon of people being unable to process your ad psychologically after viewing it multiple times. In the earlier days of internet marketing, this was referred to as banner blindness. Particularly if you’re targeting a smaller audience, you won’t have to wait long before your ad is shown to the same person numerous times. You can monitor this in the ‘Frequency’ tab in ads manager.

The more times a person sees an ad and takes no action, the less likely they are to convert. Yet, Facebook is still charging you every time the ad appears in the person’s newsfeed. This is verified in a study by Adspresso, which shows that when the ad frequency reaches 9, the average cost per click increases by 161% compared to the beginning of the campaign.

To combat this, I recommend refreshing your ad creative when your frequency is moving upwards and your KPIs are declining. A new headline or image can help to get your campaign back on track. Not sure where to find good ad images? Take a look through at my collection of free stock photo libraries, then add some text using Canva.

Alternatively, you can incorporate multiple ads (creatives) into your ad set from the beginning and rotate them. The more ads you have in your ad sets, the longer you will have to wait before your frequency starts creeping up.

Facebook Ad Hack #4: Present Social Proof

You wouldn’t trust a stranger coming to speak with you on the street. That’s how people who have never heard about your brand will feel about your Facebook ads. When targeting an entirely cold audience that hasn’t been to your website before, use various types of social proof to spark more trust:

  • Include numbers describing your product’s user number/benefits
  • Include testimonials from high-profile clients
  • Add client logos to your ad images

Facebook Ad Hack #5: Master the art of FOMO and urgency

If you’ve ever missed a flight or been the next person in the queue right when the store runs out of the thing you wanted, you know how bad this feels.

FOMO – the fear of missing out – haunts us every single day. To put FOMO to good use, you can write Facebook ad copy that makes readers think that everyone else is already using your product and they’re the last ones out.

By framing the question to make you think you’re the only one left out, this ad will get significantly more clicks than a similar one without the FOMO.

Tip: Another way to catch people’s attention and create a sense of urgency is to promote a limited-time offer. Nobody likes to miss out on a great offer.

Facebook Ad Hack #6: Keep It Simple

Writing a long ad copy to present all your product’s features and benefits isn’t always the best you can do. People won’t read your ad copy if it’s too long and full of irrelevant information. What they’re looking for is a quick answer whether they should click on the ad or not.

While Facebook allows up to 500 characters in the ad text, there’s no need to use all of it. Short and clear ad messages require less effort to be read, so people tend to like them more. For example, all the texts in this ad by NIKE are kept minimal. Instead of bragging about the greatness of their products, they let people look at the image and decide for themselves.

Facebook Ad Hack #7: Consolidate Your Ads, Don’t Duplicate Them

Within the Facebook Ads platform, when you run a new ad you can choose to duplicate an ad or use that ad’s (or post’s) ID. Most people are choosing to duplicate their ads because it’s more convenient.

But when you do this, you are harming your campaigns. Each time you duplicate an ad, you are taking social proof away from the initial post.

For example, say you have 10 ads, each one split off from the last, and each one got 10 engagements. They could be comments or likes, but you got 10 on each. That doesn’t make much of an impression. If someone looked at a post that only had 10 likes, do you think they’d be impressed? What if they saw a post or an ad with 100 combined likes and comments? That might encourage them to take a look if they have even the least bit of interest.

Now, if instead of duplicating you shared one single page or post, then all your social proof, both comments and likes, would be in one place. Consolidating these ads is pretty easy and something everyone should be doing.

Once you’re in “Business Manager” you need to navigate to “Page Posts.” Get the ID for what you want to use and use that ID when you create a new ad. This helps you aggregate all of that social proof in one place. It’s going to let you build up your ads faster and create a more enticing offer or page. With more social proof, what you’re saying looks more legit.

Over time, this will help you decrease costs in addition to improving your social proof. You’ll be running fewer ads, and each will be more effective. Putting all your attention in this one place will also help save you time.

Bonus Facebook Ad Hack: Create Retargeting Videos for Abandoned Checkouts

I have customers who have been on my websites and get all the way to the checkout page but, for some reason, don’t buy. In this situation, I’ve found that retargeting them with videos is an effective way to get them to convert:

So, when they choose not to go through with the checkout, they then see a video on Facebook about what it’s like to be a customer. The video is designed to help them see what they’ll be getting and the video format is ideal for getting this sort of personalized message across. That’s a great way to get them to rethink things and, ideally, become a customer.

In order to do this, you will have to have things set up so that you can track these impressions and see who abandoned their carts and so on. This is also a great strategy to combine with Facebook Messenger ads. With those ads, these things have already been put in place so that you can continue to monitor an interested party and re-target them as you see fit.

My Facebook Hacks:

Now there’s a legit way to spy on your competitors Facebook Ads, without even leaving the Facebook platform. I don’t recommend copying your competitor’s Facebook Ads, as this will confuse your audience and leave them wondering which brand is which.

Facebook Ad Hack #1: Spying On Your Competition

Step 1: Go to your competitor’s Facebook Page

Step 2: In the sidebar menu on their Facebook Page, click “Info and Ads”

Step 3: Change the region to “Global”

Here are all of your competitors Facebook Ads, for you to draw inspiration from. This is possibly one of my favourite Facebook Ads hacks, and so many people still don’t know about it!

Facebook Ad Hack #2: Spicing Up Your Ads With Emoji’s ✅

SaaS brand Scoro ran a small A/B test to test whether emojis have any effect on the click-through and engagement rates. They did.

The ad with emoji in the headline had a 241% higher click-through rate than the ad with no emoji.

Adding emojis to your Facebook Ads is super easy:

  • Find an emoji in Emojipedia
  • Copy it to your clipboard
  • In the editing phase, paste the emoji into your ad copy

Emojis are another way to make your Facebook ads stand out. But, I’m guessing you didn’t even realise you could use emojis in your Facebook ads? Most people haven’t yet, and that is why this still works.

Why does it work so well? Because Facebook is, first and foremost, a social media platform and your audience are there to watch dog videos and stalk their exes.

Sprinkling a few emojis through your ad makes it look like the native content it’s meant to be. It makes your ad look a whole lot less like an ad! Again, use them sparingly and in line with your brand.

Facebook Ad Hack #3: Stories And Placement

Instagram and Facebook Stories Ads are relatively new placements and have been working incredibly well lately. Using Stories Ads for your business is a great idea – simply grab some good video content and voila! If you don’t have the time or budget to create video content, simply use a pre-made animated Instagram template, and you’re sorted!

Facebook Ad Hack #4: Always Add Subtitles To Video Ads

According to Facebook, captioned video ads have a 12% higher average view time than videos with no caption.

Imagine you were at a meeting and suddenly, a loud video gets started on your phone. To avoid these kinds of situations, all the video ads on Facebook start playing without a sound:

Facebook has said:

“In mobile-feed environments, people prefer having the choice to opt in to sound. When feed-based mobile video ads play loudly when people aren’t expecting it, 80% react negatively, both toward the platform and the advertiser.”

If you don’t use video captions, people will never click on your ads as they don’t understand what the video is about.

What Is the Facebook Pixel To Begin With?

The Facebook pixel is a piece of code you place on the backend of your website to track visitors to your site. The pixel allows you to run highly targeted campaigns, so it’s important to install it before running Facebook ads. Each ad account gets one default pixel to use.

The code is made up of two main parts: the pixel base code and event code. The pixel base code tracks all of the traffic to your site.

Event codes are additional pieces of code you can add under the default pixel code to specific pages of your website that allow you to track certain actions on those pages.

Here’s a closer look at the types of event codes you can add:

  • Search: If you have an ecommerce site, you can place the Search event code on a search results page on your site. For example, if someone is searching your site for “leather sandals,” you can add that term to the code for that results page.

  • View Content: Place the View Content event code on a product page, for instance, to track views of a particular piece of content.

  • Add to Cart: Include this event code on the add to cart page of your website. If website visitors place items in their shopping cart but don’t complete the purchase, you can use the pixel data to run highly targeted ads just to those people.

  • Add to Wishlist: If you have a wishlist option on your website, you can place this event code on the page to track the items people want most. Target them with a Facebook ad containing images of those specific items.

  • Initiate Checkout: Place this event code on the page where someone begins the checkout process on your website.

  • Add Payment Info: The Add Payment event code is triggered when someone adds payment information.

  • Purchase: Place the Purchase event code on the thank-you page after people have purchased your product or service. If you have a new product coming out, you can design an ad for people who are already your customers.

  • Lead: Use the Lead event code on the thank-you page after people have opted into a lead magnet or signed up for your webinar or newsletter.

  • Complete Registration: Use the Complete Registration event code to track registrations to webinars, events, and so on.

  • Custom: The beauty of the Facebook pixel is that you can customize it to meet specific business objectives. If you create a custom event, you’ll also need to create a custom conversion related to the event.

Just a reminder here, again, if you haven’t already installed the Facebook pixel on your website, please go ahead and do this now before you proceed.

Now that you know what the pixel is, you’re ready to install it and begin using it strategically. Open Facebook Ads Manager and click the top menu button (with the three lines on it) and select Pixels from the Assets column.

Discipline Your Thoughts: Uncover The Origins of Your Thoughts, Correct Common Thinking Errors, and Critically and Logically Assess Your Beliefs

By Steven Schuster

Do your impulsive thoughts and actions bring only trouble? Do you often grab your head muttering “what was I thinking?”

There is a reason: our first, instinctual thoughts and actions are usually irrational and self-sabotaging. Discipline Your Thoughts will tell you why and also how can you correct it.

We make thinking errors on a day-to-day basis. They come naturally, thus we don’t think that we think in a distorted way, however, they can have a severe negative effect on our lives.

Knowing what they are and how to identify them, we can help ourselves making better choices. In what area of life? All of them: personal relationships, business choices, spending habits, health-related engagements.

Our mind doesn’t work the way we think it does.

Become less irrational.

This book aims to help you think about your thinking and find better solutions to your problems.

  • Why are first impressions so powerful and permanent?
  • Why do we rely on the first thought that pops into our mind?
  • How can certain advertisements make us open our wallet immediately?
  • How and why does our memory fool us on a daily basis?

Again and again, we think we experience and understand the world as it is, but our thoughts are beset by everyday illusions. Discipline Your Thoughts reveals the many ways our intuition can deceive us, why we succumb to these everyday brain tricks and what we can do to inoculate ourselves against their effect.

Simple, clear, and always surprising, this indispensable book will transform your decision making.

Correct the errors in your thinking habits and resist falling into your mental ambushes.

  • Why we take bad decisions following the opinion of the masses?
  • How we underestimate the power of emotions in rational decisions?
  • Why we need instant confirmation to support our ideas?
  • How ego distorts the sense of reality?

Less biased thinking will lead to smart decision making which leads to better relationships, financial decisions, health-related choices. Make fewer mistakes in your thinking – prevention is easier than correction.

Improve your beliefs, social biases, and memory mix-ups by understanding how your brain works.

“Escape the 9-5, Do Work You Love, And Build A Profitable Online Business…”

It seems as if everyone wants to start an online business these days. Unfortunately, too many aspiring entrepreneurs expect the process to be easy, hands off, and streamlined. If you hear anyone say that starting an online business is any of these, it’s time to tune out and move on. These people are perpetuating common myths about the industry.

When we focus on the successful businesses, we get the impression that any idea can lead to success thanks to the huge online audience. That’s one of the greatest myths about online businesses.

If you intend to give your idea a try, you should first bust that one, and then focus on revealing the truth for many other myths about online businesses.

Myth #1: You Can Start an Online Business for Free (Or A Small Amount of Money)

You’ve all seen the ads that tell you about certain online website building platforms that provide free services (or close to free) online shop creators. In addition, there’s always that self-employed friend that’s telling you how inexpensive it is to get started online.

Although the ideal online store building solutions are fairly inexpensive, you can’t possibly expect to spend less than at least $500 per year on just your website.

After all, this is your storefront. It’s the primary way you’re going to make money, and if you plan on expanding that business, it’s going to require investments.

The free (or close to free) online business is a marketing ploy to prompt you into buying.

That doesn’t mean you have to spend $10,000 your first year developing a site, but it’s prudent to budget for more, rather than nothing.

Yes, it’s possible to start a website without investing a great deal of money. Let’s check only few of the costs you’ll have to deal with:

I can’t give you a definite number; each business is related to different costs. I can, however, give you an important tip that will save your business from failing: plan the costs and save money before you start.

Myth #2: If you’re passionate about your idea, you’ll do just fine

Business gurus keep telling you that passion is crucial for the success of your project. They are right… to some extent. In reality, passion will not inevitably lead to profit.

If you want to start an online business, but you’re still not sure about the niche, you should definitely pick something you’re passionate about. However, you should also make sure the market is ready for your idea, and the competition is not already offering something too similar.

There is a link missing between the find your passion and profit. It’s about doing the work. A lot of work and commitment! When you combine that aspect with passion, your online business will have a real chance of succeeding.

Myth #3: Social media marketing is free

You wish! Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms won’t charge you anything for creating a profile for your brand. In fact, that’s one of the first things you should do as part of your marketing campaign: develop a presence not only on Facebook, Instagram and, but on many other platforms as well. While we’re at it, don’t forget to create an impressive LinkedIn profile for yourself – the founder of the online business.

Your profiles will be there, but what will you do with them? If you want real traffic and conversions, you’ll need to pay for some advertising. Effective advertisements cost money, but the good thing is that you can set a budget that works for you. You’ll have to invest in the design of the ads, too. They can be in the form of videos or images with messages, along with content that attracts the viewers to check out your offer. Bottom line, social media marketing is not as expensive as TV advertising, but it’s far from free if you want to use its full potential.

Myth #4: You’ll have a lot of free time on your hands.

If you’re already dreaming about lazy afternoons, long holidays, and constant travel, think again. While starting a business online gives you a lot of freedom and flexibility, you’ll still be spending long hours—sometimes upwards of 80 hours a week—building and growing your business in the beginning, and it requires a lot of hard work and dedication on your part.

Books like The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss have lulled a new generation of entrepreneurs into thinking that all they need to do when starting an online business is to check in on it a few hours each week while the business generates passive income. If you want your online business to succeed, you’ll need to take an active hands-on role, at least for the first few years.

We’ve all seen the ads of entrepreneurs in our Facebook feeds. Images of people posing on the beach in Costa Rica, trumpeting how they work less, live more, and lead an amazing life.

Instead of clocking out at the end of the day, or taking a holiday knowing the team will be merrily doing the work in your absence, you worry. You fret. You think about your business all the time (mostly because you enjoy what you are doing! That’s hard to turn off).

Could you make a lot of money? Sure! Could you retire your spouse? Maybe.

Will you be working hard? DEFINITELY.

You just might enjoy the work more 🙂

Yet along the way, you’ll discover that trading in the traditional 40-hour work week is one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever have done.

Myth #5: “I made 6 figures in my first 6 weeks in my Pyjamas and YOU CAN TOO!”

People who tell you this are definitely selling you something. And it’s probably something that smells fishy. If you break down the path of successful online entrepreneurs you will see that they spent YEARS in the making.

Jeff Walker was a stay-at-home dad who built an online business in finance and the stock market. When that blew up he then started what today is PLF, making tens of millions of dollars. But his first live sales pitch out of the gate for PLF? Only 6 people signed up.

Honestly, it just takes time. Building a business is work. It’ll take you months and years of repeat effort before you amass your pile of gold and your stable of ferraris in the garage

…and you know what? That’s okay!

Something worth doing is worth doing right.

Myth #6: You can run your online business alone.

Often it feels as though you have to do everything yourself when you’re running an online business. There are times, however, when you’re going to need help with tasks outside your skill set. At that point, you’ll need to have someone on hand who can help with developing website content, doing email marketing, writing advertising copy, or managing your social media presence.

Why hire a full-time staffer when you can hire a freelancer? A quick search of the internet will bring up hundreds of freelancers who are ready and willing to help you out on an as-needed basis for reasonable rates.

At the very least, it gets lonely at the top. Sometimes it’s helpful to bounce ideas off another online business person in your industry and tap into their knowledge base, especially if they’ve been in business for longer than you have.

Myth #7: “Anyone can do it, so why not me?”

Okay, this isn’t a snarky myth. But I had to include it.

Technically, anyone can start and run an online business.

But very few people will be successful at it.

Building a business is one of the most incredible personal development journeys that you can take as a human, and it’s a pretty incredible path to choose.

But it’s also hard. It’s challenging. It’s tiring. And it’s risky.

Which means that only a small number of people are going to be happy and comfortable taking this path.

And you know what? That’s okay.

Become an online entrepreneur if that’s the journey you really want to take. Don’t do it if you think you “should.”

Do it because you love learning. Do it because you enjoy selling. Do it because you are scratching an itch in your soul.

You absolutely can be an online entrepreneur.

Just don’t get caught up in the all the myths, keep your perspective, and maybe your sense of humour, and stay focused.

What’s a Sales Funnel?

A sales funnel is simply a series of emails and content that lead your new email subscribers from casual readers into raving fans and then excited customers. A funnel can be made up of webinars, emails, video content, or any other kind of content that you feel comfortable producing.

New visitors move through your funnel, get introduced to you and your product, and are educated, given tons of value and pitched with strategic marketing messages throughout the process. This concept can take a business from virtually non-existent and unknown to multi-million-dollar marketing machine with mass saturation, seemingly overnight.

In fact, there are skilled practitioners who have built a career around implementing this single concept in business. At the top of that funnel, some substance is poured in, which filters down towards one finite destination.

In sales, something similar occurs. At the top, lots of visitors arrive who may enter your funnel. However, unlike the real-world funnel, not all who enter the sales funnel will re-emerge out from the other end.

Resources mentioned in this episode:

ClickFunnels is a click based software, that you can use to easily create series of webpages that people have to navigate through in order to purchase a product, or join an email list, or a webinar, and you don’t need to know a single line of code.

ClickFunnels can build the entire funnel for you in just a few clicks. Saves both time and money.
